The pronouns give a variety of structures. Let us take another example.

Tom : Where are you, Mary?

Mary : I am here, Tom.

Tom : Where is my pen?

Mary : Here, it is in my hand.

In this dialogue, you and I have been used for Mary and it for the pen. These are

          pronouns.

          Personal Pronouns
A pronoun that stands for a person or a thing is called a personal pronoun.

Given below are pictures that show pronouns.

                       I we You You

                  (Singular) (Plural) (Singular) (Plural)

                      He She It They

                  (Singular) (Plural) (Singular) (Plural)

The personal pronouns are so named because these stand for three persons.

          1. The person who speaks is called the first person.

          2. The person to whom the first person speaks to is the second person.
