A C T I V I T Y T I M E
Objective: To understand the addition of 2-digit numbers with regrouping.
Materials Required: Matchsticks and rubber bands.
Procedure:
1. This activity will be done in pairs. The teacher will make 7-8 bundles each of
10 matchsticks using the rubber bands.
2. The teacher will give two numbers to each pair like, 26
and 38. First child will put 2 bundles and 6 matchsticks
on the table to represent tens and ones for each number. 26
Other child will put 3 bundles and 8 matchsticks as shown.

3. Now, the first child will put all the bundles in a row and the other child will
put all the matchsticks in a row.
4. Since the matchsticks are more than 9, so
the first child will make a new bundle of
10 matchsticks and leave the remaining
undisturbed.
Now, there are 6 bundles and
4 matchsticks.
26 + 38 = 6 tens + 4 ones = 64.
