Solution: First we put the numbers in place value chart.
On comparing the numbers we get Th H T O
1003 < 2839 < 4538 < 4927 < 5132 4 5 3 8
4 9 2 7
Thus, in ascending order the numbers 5 1 3 2
can be writt en as
2 8 3 9
1003 2839 4538 4927 5132 1 0 0 3
and in descending order the numbers can be writt en as

Formation of the Greatest and the Smallest 4-digit Numbers
To form the greatest number, we arrange the given digits in descending order.
To form the smallest number, we arrange the given digits in ascending order.
Let's Try
Example 1: Form the smallest 4-digit number using the digits 2, 1, 7, 5.
Solution: Arranging the digits in ascending order, we get:
1 < 2 < 5 < 7
Thus, the smallest 4-digit number using the digits is 1257.
Example 2: Form the smallest 4-digit number using the digits 3, 0, 1, 5.
Solution: Arranging the digits in ascending order, we get:
0 < 1 < 3 < 5
The smallest 4-digit number will be 0135.
But it is not a 4-digit number.
Now, interchange the position of two left most digits.
Thus, the smallest 4-digit number using the digits is 1035.
