Example 1: A container holds 6 L 392 mL of oil. If 2 L 786 mL of oil is added to it to
make the container full, what is the capacity of the container?

Solution: Quantity of oil in container = 6 3 9 2

Quantity of oil added = + 2 7 8 6
Total quantity of oil = 9 1 7 8
Hence, the capacity of the container is 9 L 178 mL.
Example 2: The capacity of a diesel tank is 30 L. It already has 18 L 50 mL of diesel.
How much more diesel it can have?

Solution: Capacity of diesel tank = 3 0 0 0 0
Quantity of diesel in tank = – 1 8 0 5 0
Quantity of diesel that can be added = 1 1 9 5 0
Hence, 11 L 950 mL more diesel can be put into the tank.
