Comparing Quantities                                                                                    95

        Example 7: An article is sold for ` 450 at a profit of 20%. Find the C.P.

        Solution: Let the cost price of the article be ` 100.
                       Given profit = ` 20 on ` 100.
                       S.P. = ` (100 + 20) = ` 120
                       If S.P. is ` 120, then C.P. = ` 100

                       If S.P. is ` 1, then C.P. = `  100
                                                 120

                       If S.P. is ` 450, then C.P. = `  100 × 450   = ` 375
                                                       120
                       Hence, C.P. = ` 375.

            (iii)  C.P. = ` 4550,  S.P. = ` 5060             (iv)  C.P. = ` 6560,  S.P. = ` 6000
