                Activity

Objective: To understand algebraic expressions with the help of tiles.

        Pre-Requisite Knowledge: Concept of algebraic expression x 1 1 1

        Materials Required: Algebraic tiles and one bowl x x 2 x 1

Procedure: 1. Distribute a bowl full with algebraic tiles among
                        each student.

                     2. Tell the students that the x tile is x units long and x x
                                                  2
units wide. The x tile is 1 unit wide and x units long. The 1 tile is 1 unit long and 1 unit wide.
                     3. Now arrange the tiles in different ways and ask the students to give the general expression for
                        that arrangement. x

        Conclusion: The algebraic expression is x + 3x + 2. x 2 x 1 1
                                                  2

                                                                                                x
