Activity
Objective: To learn how to collect relevant data and present it in the form of a bar graph for deducing useful
information.
Pre-Requisite Knowledge: Concept of data collection.
Materials Required: Chart paper, graph paper, a pair of scissors
Procedure: 1. For one week, collect data about the time at which sun rises and sets, from the newspapers or
television news channels.
2. Calculate the duration of daylight and that of the night for each weekday.
For example;
Duration of daylight on Monday = Difference between the time of sunset and the time of
sunrise on Monday.
Duration of night on Monday = Difference between the time of sunrise on Tuesday and the
time of sunset on Monday.
Observations: Draw the following table on the chart paper and record the data.
Weekdays Duration of daylight Duration of night
Monday
Tuesday
Wednesday
Thursday
Friday
Saturday
Sunday
With the help of the table, draw the bar graph on the graph paper and then paste it on the
chart paper.
