Data Handling and Presentation 157

                Activity

Objective: To learn how to collect relevant data and present it in the form of a bar graph for deducing useful
                    information.
Pre-Requisite Knowledge: Concept of data collection.
Materials Required: Chart paper, graph paper, a pair of scissors

Procedure: 1. For one week, collect data about the time at which sun rises and sets, from the newspapers or
                         television news channels.

                     2. Calculate the duration of daylight and that of the night for each weekday.
                         For example;

Duration of daylight on Monday = Difference between the time of sunset and the time of
                         sunrise on Monday.
Duration of night on Monday = Difference between the time of sunrise on Tuesday and the
                         time of sunset on Monday.
Observations: Draw the following table on the chart paper and record the data.

Weekdays Duration of daylight Duration of night

                                       Monday

                                       Tuesday

                                     Wednesday

                                      Thursday

                                       Friday

                                      Saturday

                                       Sunday

With the help of the table, draw the bar graph on the graph paper and then paste it on the
                         chart paper.
