                              Active Volcanoes





        A volcano is an opening in the Earth’s upper mantle through which lava, rock fragments, hot vapour,
        and gas erupts. It is a molten rock and gas crater hole in the Earth’s crust.

        Read the descriptions and write the names of the active volcanoes using the Help Box.


                                        1.   ______________  is  the  highest  mountain  in  the  Cascade  Range.
                                            At 14,410 feet, it dominates the landscape of a large part of western
                                            Washington  state.  It  is  regarded  as  one  of  the  most  dangerous
                                            volcanoes in the world.





          2.   ______________ is a volcano located in the northern part of Sumbawa.
             It is known for its eruption in 1816. Before 1815, it was more than
             4,300 m high, making it one of the tallest peaks in Indonesia.




                                       3.  ______________ is an active volcano located on the island of Luzon
                                          Philippines,  at  the  cross  roads  of  the  borders  of  the  province  of
                                          Zambales,  Tarlac,  and  Pampanga.  Prior  to  1991,  the  mountain  was
                                          obscured and heavily whittled away.



          4.   ______________ is the most active volcano in Indonesia and
              has  been  active  for  10,000  years.  This  volcano  rises  up  to
              9,551 feet and has dense vegetation on its lower sides.





                                          5.   ______________ is the highest mountain in Japan with an elevation
                                            of 3,776m. It is a sacred mountain and climbing it is one of Japan's
                                            most sacred traditions.




          6.   ______________  is  the  highest  volcano  in  Europe  with  an
              elevation  of  3,329m.  It  has  been  designated  as  a  Decade
              Volcano by the United Nations.
