Indian Forts
Almost every state in India has a magnificent fort belonging to a different historical period and
architectural style. Forts in India indicate the fact that our country was once ruled by Kings and
Princes.

1. ______________ is located on the Malwa coast of Maharashtra and was
built by Chhatrapati Shivaji Maharaj to counter foreign colonisation
on the Maratha and Konkan Coast. The fort’s high walls were built to
protect it from the Arabian Sea’s high tides and enemy infiltration.
2. ______________ is the second-oldest fort in Rajasthan and is located
in the city of Jaisalmer. It is considered to be one of the few living
forts in the world, as a lot of people still live in the fort. As the yellow
sandstone walls of the fort change shades during different times of the
day, it is also know as Sonar Quila.
3. ______________ was the capital of Mewar and is located in Chittor,
Rajasthan. It was controlled by several rulers across history. It is designed
roughly like a fish and is famous for several important structures like
Meera Mandir, Padmini Palace, Kirti Stambh, and Vijay Stambh.
4. ______________ is located on a hill near Gwalior, Madhya Pradesh and
has been owned by several rulers over the centuries. It is primarily
famous for its two main attractions, Gujari Mahal Palace and Man
Mandir Palace, which were built by King Man Singh Tomar.
5. ______________ is located in Jodhpur, Rajasthan and was built around
1459 by Rao Jodha. It consists of seven gates and has a well-stocked
museum exhibiting the heritage of the Rathores in arms, costumes, and
paintings.
6. ______________ is located in Hyderabad and was the early capital city
of the Qutub Shahi Dynasty. The fort was built on a granite hill by the
Kakatiyas for defensive purposes. This fort consists of four distinct forts
and eight gateways. Many world-famous diamonds like the Kohinoor,
Hope, Jacob, etc. were extracted from the diamond mines in Golconda.
