VII. Given below are some instructions. Use them to complete the paragraph that follows.

                                         STEPS FROM COTTON TO KHADI

                  Steps:
                  • First, handpick the cotton balls from the fields.
                  • Separate fibres from cotton seeds by hand using a sharp comb like object, also
known as fish jaws. This helps to achieve the superfine finish of the fabric.
                  • Remove the final traces of trash from fibres completely and collect the carded
material as ‘slivers’ through a process called ‘Carding’.
                  • Then spin the slivers into yarn on a spinning wheel. Thin them out and twist them
at the same time to strengthen it.
                  • Wind the spin yarns into reels making it easy to transport it to the weavers.
                  • Skilled artisans hand weave the reels into fabric.
                  • Send the fabric made to skilled labourers for dyeing, done with organic vegetable
dyes to avoid as much use of chemicals as possible, keeping the process natural
                     and pollution free throughout.
                  • Now the finished fabric is ready. Either Govt. Registered Khadi Distributors sell it
or retailers and designers make garments of it.

First, cotton balls (a) are handpicked from the fields. Fibres (b) are separated from cotton
seeds by hand using a sharp comb like object, also known as fish jaws. The super fine
finish of the fabric (c) is achieved with the help of this. Through a process called ‘Carding’,
                (d) the final traces of trash are removed from fibres completely and the carded material
is then collected as ‘Slivers’. The slivers (e) are then spun into yarn on a spinning wheel
where they are thinned out and twisted at the same time to strengthen it. The spun yarns
                (f) are then wounded into reels making it easy to transport it to the weavers. The reels are
then (g) hand woven into fabric by skilled artisans. The fabric (h) made is sent to skilled
labourers for dyeing, done with organic vegetable dyes to avoid as much use of chemicals
as possible, keeping the process natural and pollution free throughout. The finished fabric
is now ready to be either sold by Govt. Registered Khadi Distributors or it is made into
                garments by retailers and designers.
