•  Certain rights, like the Right to Freedom of the Press, Right to Information, and Right to Education,
               are derived from the Fundamental Rights.

            •  Now, school education has become a right for Indian citizens. The government is responsible for
               providing free and compulsory education to all children up to the age of 14 years.
            •  The Right to Information has been provided to the citizens through Right to Information Act, 2005 by
               the Parliament.

            •  The Supreme Court has expanded the meaning of the Right to Life to include the Right to Food.
            •  The Constitution provides many more rights which may not be Fundamental Rights. For example,
               the Right to Property is not a Fundamental Right, but it is a Constitutional Right. The Right to Vote in
               elections is an important Constitutional Right.

               The National  Human Rights Commission  (NHRC) is an independent  body that  inquires  into
               complaints on violation of human rights.

               International Covenant on Economic, Social, and Cultural Rights (ICESCR) is an agreement among
               the world’s leading social organisations that lays the basis for the projection and promotion of
               human rights throughout the world.


               Amnesty International,  a non-government organisation,  founded  by Peter  Beneson in  1961,
               promotes human rights throughout the world.
