Disadvantages of AI
Like every technology, Artificial Intelligence has its disadvantages too. Some of these are:

1. The development and implementation of AI is expensive and time-consuming.
2. The use of AI-enabled machines may increase human dependency on them and

reduce the use of natural intelligence.
3. A machine using AI is dependent on its programming.

4. Machines do not have emotions, morals, or ethics. Thus, AI-enabled devices can
prove dangerous in the wrong hands.

The use of AI has been depicted in various movies which highlight both advantages and
disadvantages of artificial intelligence. The Terminator, Avatar and Transformers series

are popular examples of movies based on AI.

APPLICATIONS OF AI
Artificial Intelligence has been in development for a long time, since the early 1980s.
Some applications of Artificial Intelligence are:

1. Artificial Intelligence has been the major
technology behind computers playing chess.
Deep Thought and Deep Blue are two famous
computers which played against human

opponents and defeated them.

2. Every smartphone has a virtual assistant which can be given instructions

through voice commands. Siri in Apple’s iPhones and Google Assistant
in Android phones are examples of virtual assistants.

3. Smartphone apps such as Google Maps use artificial
intelligence to learn a person’s movements and shows

them navigation results based on their past travelling
information.

4. Robots are machines designed to look and act similar
to humans. AI assists robots to interact with people,
respond to voice commands, and display emotions
such as empathy and sympathy. Robots have also been

trained to play competitive sports such as football.
