Listening & Speaking Time
The teacher will conduct a ‘Transitive--‘‘Intransitive Verb Game in the class. He/She will
divide the class into two groups. He/She will ask them to discuss and think of 10 or
more sentences with transitive and intransitive verbs. He/She will make sure that
all participants discuss in English only. They will be given five minutes to discuss.
Each group will decide among themselves a separate speaker for each round. The
groups will speak out alternatively a transitive verb sentence and an intransitive
verb sentence. The teacher will maintain the score (one mark for one correct answer)
and announce the winner’’’’s’’’’ name at the end of the game. Throughout the game, the
teacher will help and guide to make them understand the deeper meaning of the
verbs used, specially with respect to its connection with an object of a sentence.
For example:
Transitive verb sentences: I cook my meals. I ride the bicycle. I sit on the chair.
Intransitive verb sentences: Let’’s go. Birds fly. He sits here. I play every day.
