The Golden Throw
On 7 August 2021, Neeraj Chopra emerged as India’s first
track-and-field Olympic Gold medalist. He gave his
best throw of 87.58m in his second attempt to clinch
the gold medal for India at the Tokyo Olympic
Games. He is now the second Indian, after
shooter Abhinav Bindra, to win a gold medal
in individual events. He is also credited with
becoming only the second Indian and the first
male track-and-field athlete to win a medal
in the World Championships by clinching
silver in the javelin throw final at Eugene,
USA.
