Missile Man
Former President Dr APJ Abdul Kalam is known as
the ‘‘Missile Man’’ and the ‘‘People’s President’’.
Dr APJ Abdul Kalam’s involvement in nuclear
power in India earned him the title ‘‘Missile Man
of India’’. Due to his contribution, India became
a nation with nuclear power. The government of
India awarded him the highest civilian award
Bharat Ratna in 1997.
The Pokhran-II nuclear tests (in 1998) were
successful thanks to his organisational and
technical support.
Dr Kalam’s contributions to making India’s indigenous satellite
launch vehicle and leading the development of
indigenous guided missiles at DRDO were
immense.
