Rewrite the following sentences by replacing the underlined nouns with pronouns.
John’s mother asked John to bring John’s mother a pen. John took the pen and
gave the pen to John’s mother. John’s mother thanked John.

To avoid repetition, we use a few words in place of nouns. Those words are called
pronouns.
Read the following sentences.
1. Rahul is a doctor.
He treats the patients.
2. Mahi is a teacher.
She teaches the students
In the above two sentences, he and she are pronouns.
Kinds of Pronouns
We will study three kinds of pronouns in this chapter.
Personal Pronouns
The pronouns I, we, you (singular), you (plural), he, she, it and they are used mostly for
people. So they are called personal pronouns. Let us read about them in detail.
