Now, read the same words in another order.



                 1.  The sun rises in the easst.              2.  Nishant is a brave soldier.


                 3.  The rose smells sweet.                   4.  A joker sat on a wall.


          Do these groups of words make sense now?



          Yes, they do make sense now.


          Thus, we see when the words are placed in their proper order, they form a sentence.



          Parts of Sentence


          A sentence consists of two parts — the subject and the predicate.


            In a sentence, the person, thing or place we speak about is called the subject.


          What is said about the subject is called the predicate.



          Read the sentences given along with the pictures.


                     Subject           Predicate



                 1.  The boy           is laughing.


                 2.  The sun           is a star.


                 3.  The cow           is eating the grass.


                 4.  Kiran             is reading a book.



          In the above sentences, the words  the boy,  the sun,  the cow, and  Kiran are the

          subjects.


          In the above sentences, the words is laughing, is a star, is eating the grass, and is

          reading a book tell us about the subject. These words are the predicates.
