The word ‘dog’ has three letters—d, o, g. If we leave out o, we get two letters
d and g. We cannot speak these letters as dg. Therefore, o helps d and g to
be spoken as a word, dog.
In the words ‘cat, net, nib, tub’ a, e, i, u are vowels. These help c and t, n and
t, n and b, t and b to be spoken as words.
