We know that , , , , , , etc. are called fractions. They describe a certain part

or fraction of a whole. As you can see, a fraction is made up of two numbers separated
by a small dash ‘—’.
Number written above the dash is called the numerator. It indicates the number of parts
considered out of the whole.
Number written below the dash is called the denominator. It indicates the total number
of parts in which the whole is divided.
