               Let’s Attempt

Example 1: Find the area of the following figures by counting squares:

Solution: Figure Fully-filled More than Half-filled Less than Estimated area
                                  squares (f) half-filled squares (h) half-filled h
                                                 squares (m) squares (l) f m 2

                                                                                                     sq. units

                         (i) 10 0 2 0 11

                         (ii) 3 0 6 0 6
                         (iii) 2 2 2 2 5

                         (iv) 0 3 2 7 4

                         (v) 1 2 5 2 5.5
                         (vi) 4 4 1 10 8.5

Example 2: Find out the area of a rectangle of length = 5 cm and breadth = 3 cm.
        Solution: Length = 5 cm, Breadth = 3 cm, Area = ?

\ Area = (length × breadth) sq units
                                            2
                                 = (5 × 3) cm = 15 cm 2
Example 3: A rectangular park is 25 m long and 15 m wide. Find its area.
Solution: Length of the park = 25 m

                         Breadth of the park = 15 m
Area of the park = length × breadth
                                                       2
                                           = (25 × 15) m = 375 m 2
