area of this park.
Let’s Attempt
Example 1: Count the unit squares in the figure below and then write its area in sq cm.
(Area of each unit square = 1 sq cm)
Solution: In the given figure, there are 18 unit squares.
Thus, area of this figure = 18 sq cm.
Example 2: Find the area of a rectangle whose length is 8 cm and breadth is 6 cm.
Solution: length = 8 cm, breadth = 6 cm
Area of the rectangle = length × breadth = 8 × 6 sq cm = 48 sq cm
Thus, area of the rectangle is 48 sq cm.
Example 3: Find the area of a square whose side is 32 cm.
Solution: Side of the square = 32 cm
Area of the square = side × side = (32 × 32) sq cm = 1024 sq cm
So, area of the square is 1024 sq cm.
Exercise 11.2
1. Find the area of a rectangle whose:
(a) Length = 26 cm, breadth = 4 cm (b) Length = 28 cm, breadth = 10 cm
2. By counting the unit squares, find the area of the following figures.
(Area of each unit square = 1 sq cm)
(a) (b) (c)
Area = ______ sq cm Area = ______ sq cm Area = ______ sq cm
