18 18            Simple Future Tense

             Complete the sentences using the simple future tense of the verbs.

               1.  I ____________ a new car. (buy)

               2.  Shruti ____________ a cake for you. (bake)

               3.  It ____________ tomorrow. (rain)

               4.  He ____________ a song in the assembly tomorrow. (sing)





          The simple future tense expresses actions that will take place in a future time. We use

          shall and will as helping verbs in the simple future tense.

          Read the following sentences.

            1.  He will purchase new clothes next month.

            2.  I shall bring the book tomorrow.

          In the above sentences, the verbs will purchase and shall bring are in the simple
          future tense. The helping verbs shall and will tell us about a future time.


          Formation of the Simple Future Tense

          We use the root form of the main verb after the helping verb shall/will.


                              subject + shall or will + root form of a main verb + ...
