16 16             Simple Past Tense

             Fill in the blanks with the simple past form of the verbs given in brackets.

               4.  Amit  ____________ a laptop to his

          The simple past tense is used to show an action that took place in the past. We use
          the past form of the verb in the simple past tense.


          Read the following sentences.

            1.  She went to school.

            2.  I met him yesterday.

            3.  They played football in the evening.

          In the above sentences, the verbs went, met and played are in the simple past tense.


          We use some words or groups of words to show the time in the past, in simple past

          tense.

            1.  I met my friend a week ago.

            2.  She ate sweets last night.

            3.  He danced yesterday.
