            We do not use any articles:
                 •  with nouns that name materials.
               For example:
                       •  This statue is made of marble.
                 •  with abstract nouns.

               For example:
                       •  Honesty is a great virtue.
                 •  when a noun is used in the general sense.

                    For example:
                       •  Man is not immortal. (We are talking of human in the general sense.)
                 •  with plural nouns when they denote a class.

                    For example:
                       •  Horses are useful animals.
                 •  with the names of meals — breakfast, lunch, dinner.

                    For example:
                       •  Many families eat dinner together.
                 •  with the names of diseases.
                    For example:

                       •  Oncologists are doctors who specialise in treating cancer.
                 •  with words like mother, father, uncle, aunt when they function as a proper noun.
                    For example:

                       •  Mother has a passion for reading.
            Repetition of Articles

            The repetition of an article changes the meaning.

                    For example:
                       •  There were on the jury among others a great orator and a great diplomat.
                        (Here, the reference is to two different persons.)
