CYBER ETHICS AND SECURITY

Internet has revolutionised the field of information technology. Today, we can use
the Internet to access almost any type of service, such as banking, ticket booking,

shopping, communication, or education. But, with the increasing use of online

facilities that have made our lives simple and easy, we are also facing the threat

of some unethical practises in the form of digital attacks like plagiarism, hacking,
phishing, spamming, cyberbullying, etc. Let us learn about the various cybercrimes

and the measures to safeguard ourselves from these unethical practices.

            Ethics in Computing

Computing ethics deals with the moral principles or code of conduct that are

to be followed by people while using online services or accessing information

on the Internet. For example, we should respect the views of others, be honest,
and recognise the rights and properties of others on the Internet. Some of the

common issues related to computing ethics are plagiarism, copyright concerns,

privacy concerns, etc. So while using the online services for information, we need

to be honest and follow certain rules, which are as follows:
            • Never try to harm other people by unethically accessing their computers on

               the Internet.

            • Always show respect to others while communicating.
            • Never try to steal important or confidential information from someone’s

               computer.

            • Do not copy information which is protected by the Copyright Act.
            • Never use social media sites to spread rumours or false information.

            • Never download pirated software.

            • Never observe what someone else is doing on their computer, unless asked by
               the person.

            • Never interfere in others’ work.
