Task 4 Role Play (4 minutes)
Role Play (4 minutes)
The teacher will divide you into groups of four and ask you to play your role by presenting
your views and discussing with others the topic ‘Is Midday Meal a good initiative by the
government!’.
Four role cards are given below. Each of you will be allotted a role from them. Take your
cues from the cards and build your argument based on them, further enhancing your points.
The person playing the expert will ensure that everyone participates in the discussion and
all the participants get equal time to present their views.
Time for preparation: 10 minutes; Time for performance: 4 minutes

Role Card 1: Anganwadi Worker

³ Midday Meal Scheme is a school meal programme started by the Government of India.
³ It is designed to provide the nutritional standing of school-going children nationwide.

³ This scheme has helped the economically weaker section by providing nutritious meals
to the children in schools.

Role Card 2: Teacher

³ The food is prepared within the school, so we can ensure that the food is healthy and
clean.

³ Since Midday Meal Scheme has been launched, the attendance of students in school
has also improved.

³ The scheme treats all the students equally as all students, rich and poor, eat the same
meal in schools.

Role Card 3: Parent

³ The Midday Meal Scheme has helped us poor people by providing at least one square
meal to our children.

³ The children not only get to eat nutritious food, but they also study in school.

³ Earlier children did not like to go to school, but now this added attraction of getting a
meal in school has helped in sending them to school.

Role Card 4: Expert

³ The Midday Meal Scheme was started by the government with good intentions. As with
any good initiative, this scheme also faces setbacks sometimes.

³ In some schools, the food is so tasteless that the food is not able to lure the students
to school.
